You must keep up with the flow of traffic up to the speed limit. You must maintain a steady pace, not speeding up and slowing down. You must also adjust speed to avoid obstacles and perhaps facilitate a lane change. Maintaining speed comes with practice and it is recommended not to use cruise control for at least the first six months that you drive in order to work on this skill. Not being able to maintain speed would be a major problem on an expressway.
