Lane change signal: wrong / early / late / not given / not cancelled

When changing lanes, you need to sign early enough to warn other vehicles of your intentions.  Otherwise, you could cause a collision. You should signal at least three seconds before beginning to change lanes and remember to cancel your signal once the maneuver is completed. Signally early/late or not cancelling soon enough would be considered a minor error. Failing to signal or signally in the wrong direction could be considered a critical error.
